This book seems written for a weird demographic, obviously over 18, but not much more mentally mature than that. The female lead is a weak idiot, and the male is mentally 17. The dialogue is far from stimulating and it is always the same; "You want me and you will beg for it, blah blah, blah." I almost never review books, but this was so bad I felt it an actual duty. Only tried it because of the positive reviews and boy do I regret it. Ever finish a book because you want to know what happens out of morbid curiosity and hate yourself for it? Well here you go. And the end is a cliffhanger with no answers whatsoever. A shameless ploy to get you to buy another book. I will never get that time back; a bad movie is only 2 hrs of wasted life, so I am way more disappointed by a bad book that takes many hours. This is another amateur attempt at mildly dark romance (misnomer because that's not romantic at all) and it fails deeply on an intellectual level. Character development is basically nonexistent, but if you're into it for the sex alone (obviously for young readers for whom sex is a rare treat) the voila, there is plenty of that.Product details

I really liked the indebted series so I may be holding this book up to its' standards. The beginning was drawn out but I understood that their relationship had to be developed some type of way in order for the characters to be believable. The flirting was a turn on and the scenes were well written. What bothered me so much was her inability to act like an adult at times although she ran this huge company. I purchased the follow up book to this one and all I will say is to just stop at this book. It doesn't get any better.
This is an amazing Cinderella like tale only roles are reversed. In this book you have the very privileged Elle who is heir to a retail market and always has a schedule to follow. On her 19th birthday she breaks away from the chains and explores the city only to be in a very dangerous situation.
Nameless, he's a man that has lived on the streets and on the fateful day saved Elle's life. After having their night come to an abrupt end all those years ago Elle can't seem to get her mind off Nameless who in her mind is her prince charming.
Years later Elle is being pushed together into relationships by her father since he wants her to find true love. She's told her father she will give up looking for Nameless only she hasn't. She can't seem to move on to be with another man when that man those three years ago saved her life and showed her the best night in her life. Now she's battling things out with two men, Greg who is the childhood friend she's grown up with and knows to be a bit of a player. Then there is Penn Everett who has hit things off with her father one evening and is determined to make Elle want him. Only Penn has a secret. Question is will Elle discover what Penn is hiding and if she does will she leave him??
An amazing story that you just don't want to put down. So intense and leaves you on the edge of your seat!
Sometimes I like a strong alpha male. But the main reason I like them is for how they protect and take care of the women they love. Penn was a jerk. He used and abused her, and then he doesn't even protect her take care of her! He didn't have any likeable qualities. I hated the part when she asked him if he was going to kill her and he said maybe. What's up with that? Also, her storyline wasn't believable. One minute she says she's never worn tennis shoes and then the next she talks about her daily run/work-out. What, did she run in her dress suits and heels? And I'm supposed to believe she has NEVER walked anywhere without her bodyguard? She is supposed to be a beautiful 22 year old woman that has traveled the world and runs a massive business, yet has never had a friend, a social life or ANY time alone? Ridiculous.
I don't know why I go into this type of book with higher expectations then I know I should. Maybe because I am of the firm belief that one should not have to sacrifice plot or writing ability for smut. I'm not reading this romance expecting plots with subplots. I'm not expecting great literary prowess. What I am expecting is that the story make sense within the confines of the author's world.
Noelle is a woman of business. Born heir to a department store, the likes of which Macy's has never seen, she is expected to act and comport herself a certain way. So of course she wants to escape her life for just a night, she goes out and her world changes, for better or worse only she can tell us. She meets a man who the reader only knows as Nameless. She has a semi-fling with him and never sees him again. Fast forward 3 years into the future. She has a run in with Penn, a man who reminds her of her lost stranger. Let the story begin from there.
So far, typical, but there is nothing wrong with that. I am fully okay with this storyline, what I am not okay with is how everything plays out from here. For a book to hold a reader's interest it must have a purpose. A shared goal that the reader and protagonist work towards. Without that both are left adrift in aimless chapters. So what's the purpose of this book? I would think the mystery lies in whether or not Penn and Nameless are the same person. I felt like that is what I wanted to know the whole time. Well do I know that having read this whole book? No. No I do not. I can hazard a guess but every time Winters pushes the reader to draw a conclusion on this point she pushes just as hard in the other direction. Like she's trying to create doubt in the reader so that she can draw the storyline out. But all that that does is leaves a dissatisfied taste in my mouth. What was I reading for if not that?
So wait, lets try another purpose. If I wasn't supposed to be reading towards that mystery perhaps I was simply reading for the sexy times/relationship between Penn and Elle. Maybe I was supposed to be connected to them, to see their hate blossom into something more. Maybe sexual tension was supposed to be the driving force. Well if that is the case how can Penn as a main character be so unlikable?!! He is simply horrible. He's mean, he's arrogant. He is rude and demeaning to the protagonist. He uses her and dumps her on multiple occasions. And just when you think he's going to do something nice he bails at the last moment. Without any kind of redeeming quality Penn's hotness factor drops to not. I am no stranger to alpha-holes. I can totally get with the bad boy with a gooey interior. But Penn has no such thing. He's rotten through and through. So looks like I've struck out again in terms of purpose. Sigh.
There wasn't even any relief with the secondary characters. For one there is no need to for a villain when the hero isn't a hero. Truthfully I have no hope that Penn with save our protagonist from that overly dramatic cliffhanger. And it's because over the course of the story Winters failed to instill in her readers a connection to him. What about Penn in the previous 300 pages would make me think he would do anything nice for Elle? Nothing. So what reason do I, as the reader, have to believe in him? I don't have one.
I don't even want to get started on her father, the completely clueless man who in Elle's eyes still deserves a 'father of the year' award. He seems to have no problem supporting this clearly dysfunctional relationship. He doesn't seem to notice any warning signs or try to step in and help his daughter get out of the relationship that he all but threw her into. If Winters wants me to believe that Elle's father would support Penn over Elle then fine but she needs to write the story that way. Give them a backstory. Where to they know each other from? Did Penn do something for him as a favor which gives him credibility? Does Penn have dirt on the family that holds Elle's father in thrall? I need something!!

Any one would have gotten this book a higher rating than I gave it. As it is there is a sequel to supposedly wrap this up. Unfortunately I don't trust Winters to give me any kind of satisfying resolution.
